This exciting new plant is a real show-stopper with its huge 8-9" flowers of pure red that absolutely glow against the richest purple foliage in the genus. Since buds occur not just at the stem tips but all down the stems, the flowers open over an unusually long time, starting in midsummer and not quitting until well into fall.
Neat and compact, it tops out at about 4' tall and 4 1/2' wide, so it doesn't have to be relegated to the back of the border as older, bigger varieties did. Being native to swampy areas, it loves moist, rich soils, but adapts well to dryer, poorer conditions, though it blooms best if watered during drought. The leaves attain best color in full sun, so pick a sunny spot for your plant. In late fall when stems have turned brown, cut them back to 6" and mulch for the winter, especially in zone 4. Zones 4 (with protection)-9. Bareroot. Hibiscus 'Midnight Marvel' PPAF. Full Sun.Deer tend to avoid.

This flowering shrub turned out to be a nice fit for my yard! The flowers are lovely & the leaves are a beautiful color all their own!
I absolutely love this plant. I was under the impression it had to come in for winter in GA as other hibiscus do, so I planted it in a pot. I just adore the color of the leaves and the flowers are simply breathtaking. Unfortunately, it needed constant watering and it died when I went out of town for a week. My mom told me to put it in the basement for winter and see if it came back next year. Sure enough, new growth sprung from the pot. I couldn't be happier to see it again!
"I ordered this plant last year, planted it and I could not believe how beautiful the bush was with the red leaves and the bright red flowers. I am going to order again this year for my 2 sisters and of course another one for myself. Thanks"
