I can't take it with me Review by Lisa - Leander, TX
Posted on 2016-05-23

For at least six years, I've had a chocolate silk tree in one of two gardens next to my normal silk/mimosa. They were planted at the same time but came from different providers. The chocolate came to me at about 16" tall, the other tree about 2'. As of today, the normal silk is about 9' tall and put out it's first seed pods last year. It is in full flower. By stark contrast, the chocolate is a very slow grower. It is about 4' tall and has a tendency to go wide. If you want it to be tall, you have to train it. Using very tall stakes, I have been steadily tying it upright against it's desire to spread out. Contrary to another's review, I live in Zone 8b and both trees are in the ground. While both go dormant in the winter, the chocolate blooms later than the normal. But it's truly beautiful. And that's why I ordered another from Spring Hill, though this was the first time I'd ordered from them. The first plant I ordered came first, a Princess Diana Clematis. I was very disappointed with it's condition. It hasn't died yet, but it's on life support having immediately been planted and watered. I have been buying duplicates of my favorite plants and trees, so when the chocolate came, I was very disappointed to find a stick with a very loose root ball. The chocolate mimosa was the last tree I needed. Like the clematis, it's condition was disappointing. But the reviews were all positive despite all getting sticks much smaller than the one I received. But I went ahead and planted it in a large pot with great drainage and today I discovered the stick had tiny green buds. It's alive! The height of this stick is impressive, nearly 3.5'. It should be a beauty. The only negative aspect of these transactions is my inability to communicate via email with this company. But I'll keep my fingers crossed and see how my garden grows.

Could not be happier. In the first year the two trees I bought have tripled in height and each have 3 major branches. Very very happy.

It took a while for my tree to arrive and when it did arrive in April, it was dormant. Since it is only 1 1/2 feet, I potted it until it shows some life. My tree has finally started growing in May! I will be planting it permanently next year to replace a larger tree that has become overgrown in my front yard.

I have had mimosas in my yards since I moved to Missouri (both mid-state and southern), and they are a beautiful tree that the hummingbirds absolutely love!

Lovely tree Review by Susan Brown - ROUND ROCK, TX

I bought this tree last year when it arrived it looked like a twig snapped in half...I planted it anyways and it has grown well...although it only grows wide not still look beautiful and I am hoping it flowers this only suggestion is that the company packs it differently, and that the shipping carriers take more care with the package...

This is really a fantastic tree, like fern leaves. I love just sitting and looking at it, just beautiful, would recommend highly!!

Surprising! Review by Debbie - North Augusta, SC

"I ordered this plant earlier this summer. It looked like a sawed off branch with no leaves and no obvious roots when it arrived. I was busy and so I let it lay around for quite a long time before I ever planted it. I figured that I had probably killed it but decided to put it in the ground anyway. Surprisingly, in a very short time, it had sprouted leaves and is now looking quite healthy! I can't wait to see what it does next year! What a resilient plant!"

Received my order of this tree last week. It arrived quickly and in perfect planting condition. I can not wait to see it become even more lovely than the picture.

tropical look Review by Steve - Rochester, NY

"This plant provides an exotic tropical look, but in zone 6 or colder bring it inside or expect it to die down to the ground most winters (will re-sprout from roots in spring in zones 5 & 6)."
