This delightful small dogwood is outstanding for its coloring, its small, neat stature, and its ability to grow well despite less than ideal conditions! One of its most remarkable characteristics is the clean variegation on the leaves. They open bright green with a cream edge, and the edges become suffused with pink during the season, while the clean green takes on strawberry tones and finally assumes purple hues in fall – a simply stunning combination! Not to mention the large flowers that open white and mature to pink, becoming richer as they age.
The tree produces a super abundance of these blooms over a very long time, continuing on into early summer. A 10 year-old tree will be only 8-10' tall and wide, so it fits well into today's smaller gardens. Easy to grow, even in clay, and it tolerates heat, humidity and dry conditions, once established. Needs afternoon shade where summers are hot. Zones 5-8. 2-3' Bareroot. Cornus kousa 'Akatsuki'. Full Sun to Partial Shade.
I looked at this tree for two years trying to decide weather o not to buy it. When my mother passed away 3 years ago I decided it would be the perfect memorial to honor her. I love this tree it is so beautiful. I love the pink hues and although it has not bloomed yet it is absolutely gorgeous. I would love to be able to attach a picture of it with this review.

I bought an Akatsuki Dogwood last year and maybe it was our hot summer or maybe it was it just didn't like where I put it, but it struggled all year and then didn't survive the winter. I was incredibly sad, as this is a beautiful tree and I was looking forward to enjoying it for years to come. I contacted Spring Hill to see if they would replace it as it was less than a year old. I was shocked and thrilled when they replied within hours that a replacement would be shipped within days. It got here 6 days later, I got it in the ground and is already budding out! Great customer service and I'm looking forward to enjoying this lovely plant!

i bought this last year and it died. i called for a replacement and was told they no long had this tree. i was refunded $25.00. but they do have the tree and they are asking over twice as much for it this year. i do not think it was fair not to send me a new tree for my replacement.
