Considered one of the darkest of the black irises, Before the Storm Bearded Iris features moderately sized flowers with widely-flaring falls and a soft fragrance. A midseason bloomer, Before the Storm's purple to pitch-black coloring is so dark that it reflects nearly blue off the petals. Easy to grow, deer resistant and drought tolerant, this black iris will return year after year. - Planting Instructions: Set rhizome so bottom half is below ground level. Firm well and water thoroughly. Plant where they will get at least 5 hours of sun per day.
- Winter Care: None, except to mulch in colder climates the first winter. Remove early in spring before growth starts.
- Shipped: #1 RHIZOME
- Growth Rate: Fast once established.

- Flower Form: 4.5-5" flowers with widely flared falls
- Foliage Type: Glaucous-green, sword-like fans of stiff upright leaves.
- Resistance: Deer Resistant
- Pruning: Remove spent flower stems after blooming. In late fall, cut back foliage to 6" fans. Clean plant debris before winter to prevent borers overwintering.
- Soil Requirement: Well drained soil. Vigorous grower which requires generous feeding if soil is not fertile. At least 5 hours of sunlight each day. Water during dry periods. Avoid water-logged soils.
- Watering Requirement: Water immediately after planting and then water regularly for the first year. After that, water only if the season is hot and dry.
