Retire the hand-hoe and put away the mulch—there are better ways to solve problem bare spots in the shady garden. Golden Anniversary Lamium covers up that soil and adds colorful flowers, foliage and texture, and is particularly effective planted among hosta and ferns. This easy-care, mat-forming ground cover provides lots of lavender-purple blooms from mid spring to early summer. But foliage is the real story here, with golden yellow edges on dark green leaves with white veining. Lamium grows well in shaded to partially shaded areas, making it perfect for planting along the edges of woodland gardens or as a transition from one shadowy garden area to the next. When planted with spring-blooming bulbs, its colorful leaves hide messy bulb foliage when it begins to fade. Lamium maculatum 'Golden Anniversary'.
