Gordon E. Simonson Itoh Peony

Featuring the attractive habit of herbaceous peonies and the massive, exquisite blooms of tree peonies, Itoh peonies are one of our favorite hybrid varieties. Gordon E. Simonson features a classic peony shape and texture, but its large flower form, bold fuchsia petals and bright yellow centers make it a fresh and dramatic addition to the landscape. But the color isn't the only thing that grabs our attention. Gordon E. Simonson's blooms are also twice the size of other Itoh peony flowers. Despite its large size, the peonies grow on sturdy stems that won't need staking. They're excellent for cut flower arrangements, but be sure to cut them in the morning, before the buds open, and leave at least three leaves on the stem. Paeonia itoh 'Gordon E. Simonson'

Peonies have few requirements: give them a sunny well-drained location, plant 2-4' apart, with the eyes (new buds at the crown) no more than 2" below soil level and apply fertilizer or compost in spring. They take a while to establish, often 3 years before the first bloom--but the wait is worth it. They are heirloom quality. Let them grow undisturbed and they will bring joy to you and your loved ones through the decades.
