This tree does everything an evergreen magnolia should… and more. With creamy white flowers that are larger than 'Little Gem' and a habit that is more narrow and compact, this magnolia deserves more attention. The leaves are a little different as well, with wavy edges that give it a refined texture, yet with the same waxy gloss and coppery velvet undersides of the species. The leaves are long lasting when cut, and are often used in holiday displays and wreaths. New growth opens to an attractive pink, before developing the dark green gloss that precedes the 7" blooms in midsummer. While it stays compact, Kay Parris grows faster than other evergreen magnolias, and blooms at an earlier age. Consider using it as a vertical accent tree, especially suited to protected corners and walls if you are testing the bounds of hardiness in Zones 6 or 7. Magnolia grandiflora 'Kay Parris'
