Product Description

This sweet itea features fizzy sprigs of flowers in spring and burgundy foliage in fall. Merlot is a cultivar of Virginia Sweetspire, an Itea plant native to the southeastern US. A multi-season shrub, Merlot features dark red fall foliage that carries from late summer into winter. In springtime, long racemes of fragrant, pure-white flowers arch gracefully attracting butterflies and pollinators. Compact in height and beautifully dense, Merlot prefers partial shade and moist soil conditions. One of the most compact of the sweetspires, its habit makes it perfect in understory plantings, short hedges, or as a container plant. Itea virginica 'Merlot'
