This is one of our exclusive cultivars from Dr. Keith Zary's brand new Northern Belle Hardy Crape Myrtle series. This series produces the most hardy crape myrtles yet--they don't just survive in northern zones, they put on a brilliant performance year after year. It's even reliable as a rebloomer in the cooler zones, which is totally unprecidented. In midsummer, when other flowering shrubs are fading, this variety will burst into bloom with a searing hot, vivid color. Butterflies adore it. It thrives all the way up to zones 5 with a heavy mulch--we got an excellent performance out of it in zone 6, even without winter protection. It stays at a good height for a border accent shrub. In cooler zones it'll die back to the ground and grow new each year, to about 3' tall. It will grow a little taller in warmer zones--still not the size of a tree, but we've seen this cultivar grow up to 5' tall in sunny California. Drought tolerant once established.
