Bark peels into large curls
Extremely ornamental tree has exfoliating coppery orange to red-brown bark. Medium green leaves turn to showy oranges and reds in the fall. An oval tree with slender upright branching, it's ideal as an understory tree in a woodland garden or as a specimen tree in the landscape. A native tree in China, the Paperbark Maple was brought from China to England in 1899 by E. H. ("Chinese") Wilson. The Arnold Arboretum introduced it to the United States. Acer griseum
