- Planting Instructions: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the roots without bending them. Work soil around the roots, firm well and water thoroughly.
- Winter Care: Mulch in colder climates.

- Soil Requirement: Well-drained, dry, infertile sandy soils. Does not like wet soils. Cannot compete with surface-rooted trees.

- Additional Information: Attracts butterflies like crazy! Bright orange flowers in early summer are followed by seedpods later on. Excellent as a cut flower or in dried arrangements. Naturalizes well. Protect in exposed sites in winter with a layer of compost or mulch. Competes successfully with grasses. Incorporate a small amount of peat moss or compost into the soil just to help improve drainage. No need for a fertile soil with this plant. Unique characteristics - Attracts Butterflies. Not invasive. Canoe-shaped seed pods. Slow to emerge in the spring.
