A mat-forming succulent groundcover, Ruby Heart produces thick, fleshy foliage with a rosy-colored base. The rose and pink-greenfoliage varies by season, intensifying in cooler fall or winter weather. Spiky and stunning mother rosettes spread by sending out shoots that create new 'baby chicks." Sempervivums die after flowering, but their multiple"chicks" easily fill in any empty spaces. In summer, a tall stalk rises from the "hen" rosette, producing star-like flowers of pink. Little maintenance is needed once established, as these succulents handle drought and tough conditions with ease. Excellent for groundcover, weed suppression, filling in a mixed pot, or xeriscaping in rock gardens.
