Product Description

Sometimes called "Japanese snowball," Doublefire Viburnum is a marvel of around-the-globe breeding. Its Latin epithet, viburnum plicatum, comes from the word for "pleated"—a reference to this viburnum's pleated-looking leaves. Shasta Doublefire Viburnum is everything we love about the species, in one low-growing shrub.

Bred from the large shrub native to China and Japan, Shasta is a lower-growing Doublefile Viburnum introduced in 1979 by the U.S. National Arboretum. It has been tested for performance throughout trial gardens in the U.S., and it adapts to a variety of landscapes and climates.

Beloved for both its performance and elegance, Shasta bears a profusion of blooms. Double rows of flattened, lacecap-style flower clusters, each up to 4" across, cover the upper sides of the branches. Its shiny, delicately-patterned leaves last all season and turn to lovely shades of red in winter.

Viburnum plicatum f. tomentosum 'Shasta'
