Hi, I'm Debbie with Spring Hill and today, we're going to be talking about one of my favorite workhorse shrubs, and that's Ruby Slippers Dwarf Oakleaf Hydrangea. This is a wonderful versatile shrub that thrives in zones 5 through 8. Now, what happens is, early in the season, these huge panicles of bright white blooms will emerge and, as the season progresses, they'll first turn pink, and then they're going to deepen to a really deep raspberry red. But that's not where the story ends. In the fall, it's actually the foliage that puts on a show as it turns into this real rich deep burgundy. And this wonderful plant stays compact - about three and a half feet by three and a half feet wide. So, it'll fit into almost any area into your garden. Another thing that's wonderful about an oakleaf hydrangea is that it thrives in the heat. Now unlike a mophead hydrangea or a hydrangea macrophylla, which sometimes can get burnt in full sun when it's too hot, Ruby Slippers actually loves it. The hotter, the better. The more sun, the better. It's going to thrive and the bloom color is not going to get washed out. This is a wonderful, wonderful shrub for hot areas in your garden. It will just keep thriving for you even in the dead of summer. So, Ruby Slippers Dwarf Oakleaf Hydrangea, get yourself some!
